Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a KnowledgeVision Presentation?

A KnowledgeVision presentation is an interactive online experience that can be placed on almost any web page, in email campaigns, and sent around as a link.  It is a tightly-synchronized collection of media which usually has video (or audio), presentation slides (typically Microsoft PowerPoint, but also images, or Flash animations), footnote links, and virtual handouts, packaged into an attractive package that engages the viewer like no other presentation experience.

Where can I use KnowledgeVision presentations?

KnowledgeVision presentations can be placed (embedded) on just about any web page, or linked to from any web page, email message, or database -- anywhere an internet hyperlink can be found. It can also be launched as a "shadowbox" overlay to most web pages. Here are some examples of these various uses:

Can KnowledgeVision presentations be viewed on any computer?

By default, most KnowledgeVision presentations use Adobe Flash, which makes it viewable with equal quality on more than 98% of the Windows, Macintosh, and Linux computers in the world. KnowledgeVision has also introduced HTML5 "smart players" that can display KnowledgeVision presentations on iOS devices such as the Apple iPad. KnowledgeVision presentations work well on all Android phones and tablets that support Adobe Flash.

What makes KnowledgeVision the world's most flexible online presentation tool?

KnowledgeVision is unmatched by any other online presentation platform in its capabilities and flexiblity:

  • It offers both live and on-demand presentations;
  • It offers both video and audio-based presentations;
  • Its players may be designed to any configuration, no matter how exotic the design;
  • It requires no special hardware;
  • It can produce presentations on-the-fly, from the field, from any internet connection anywhere in the world; and
  • It can support production environments ranging from sophisticated studios to a built-in computer webcam.

KnowledgeVision Applications

Can KnowledgeVision be used for video webinars?

Certainly!  In fact, KnowledgeVision's live webcast module, KVLive has been used for video webinars with many thousands of simultaneous viewers.  They not only see the presenter, but also crisp, clear PowerPoint slides, and any of a number of widgets that enhance the experience: a Q&A panel for asking questions of the presenter, a chat panel, and a Twitter feed panel may all be incorporated into a KnowledgeVision Live player.  This results in the best video webinar experience you've ever seen!

What if I have a whole collection of KnowledgeVision presentations?

An add-on KVCollections Manager module is available for KVStudio that helps organize large collections of KnowledgeVision presentations.  This makes it easy to manage a lecture series, a library of subject manager expert presentations, or an entire training course.

Building KnowledgeVision Presentations

How do I build a KnowledgeVision presentation?

KnowledgeVision presentations are built in KVStudio, the powerful, easy-to-learn toolkit. Presentations can be built with amazing speed -- just upload the video, upload a PowerPoint deck, press SYNCHRONIZE, and press NEXT SLIDE at each slide-change point. A 10-minute presentation can be built in KVStudio in less than 20 minutes.

Is there any more to it than that?

Of course there is. KVStudio is an enterprise-grade professional tool that provides a complete content management system for designing, building, deploying, and managing presentations. Beneath the simple interface is a powerful suite of capabilities that allow the advanced presentation designer to control all manner of events on a web page -- from pop-up quizzes to banner ads -- all tied to the video or audio stream.

Can I see how a KnowledgeVision presentation is built?

KVStudio makes it easy to build a KnowledgeVision presentation in minutes.  The best way to understand the process is to see it in action in this short video, "10 Minutes to Ready: How to Create Your First KnowledgeVision Presentation".

What video sources can I use?

KnowledgeVision is fully integrated with both the Brightcove and Ooyala online video platforms.  That means you can use any video you have in your Brightcove or Ooyala account, as well as the live streaming capabilities of both services. KnowledgeVision is also tested and fully compatible with the LiveStream and UStream/Watershed live webcasting networks. If you don't have a Brightcove or Ooyala account, then we can set you up with hosting and streaming services provisioned through KnowledgeVision. KnowledgeVision can ingest just about any kind of video or audio file.  Once uploaded, these files are optimized in minutes for the KnowledgeVision system.

How do you handle Microsoft PowerPoint slides?

When you upload a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation to KnowledgeVision, each slide is converted within a few minutes to a small Flash movie, preserving all of the animations from the original presentation slide.  At the user's option, each animation step may be broken up into a different segment so that it may be timed precisely to the transition cues in the video or audio.

What’s the big deal about KnowledgeVision templates?

One of the keys to KnowledgeVision's flexibility is its player templates.  Working with our clients, our design team creates player templates that precisely fit the dimensions, look, and feel of the websites in which they'll be embedded.  And when the website changes, all you need to do is to edit the template; every presentation created with that template will instantly be updated to the new design.  The creative range of these templates can be seen by visiting the KVStudio Starter Template Gallery.

What are KnowledgeVision plug-ins all about?

Plug-ins are a very powerful feature that allows web pages and applications to be incorporated into KnowledgeVision presentations and players. Virtually anything on the web that can be represented by a URL, an iFrame, or an HTML embed code block can be synchronized into a presentation or placed in a KnowledgeVision player panel. Among the features this enables are: inquiry forms, quizzes and assessments, polls, real-time data charts, interactive transcripts, and interactive appointment schedulers. See the KnowledgeVision presentation, "Ten Fresh Ideas for using KnowledgeVision Plug-Ins" for examples of KnowledgeVision plug-ins in action.

Do I need any special hardware or equipment?

One of the tremendous advantages of KnowledgeVision is that you don't need any special hardware or equipment to create stunning interactive presentations.  For audio presentations, all you need is the built-in microphone in your computer or a headset.  For video, a built-in or USB webcam will do.  Of course, professional video and audio equipment and lighting will give even better results.
